Trump Says Israel Agrees to Conditions for Gaza Ceasefire, Hopes Hamas Will Accept US President Donald Trump announced that Israel has accepted the key terms for a proposed 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, expressing hope that Hamas will also agree to the deal. Trump made the statement via Truth Social, noting that Qatar and Egypt would deliver the final proposal. He warned Hamas that the deal “will not get better — it will only get worse” if rejected. The ceasefire aims to bring an end to the ongoing conflict that began after Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack, which left around 1,200 Israelis dead. Since then, more than 56,000 Palestinians have reportedly been killed in Israeli strikes, according to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry. It is still unclear whether Hamas will accept the ceasefire conditions. Trump is set to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu next week and indicated he would take a “very firm” stance during talks. Trump stated he believes Netanyahu wants to end the war and hinted a deal could be finalized next week. Meanwhile, Israel's Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer is in Washington for talks with US officials. Despite ongoing mediation efforts by Egypt and Qatar, negotiations remain stalled, with about 50 Israeli hostages still held in Gaza — 20 of whom are believed to be alive. Tensions remain high as Israel continues its military operations, including airstrikes like one that recently killed at least 20 Palestinians at a Gaza City cafe. Israel has also faced criticism over aid access, with humanitarian groups accusing the Israeli military of firing on civilians trying to reach aid centers. Israel denies the allegations, saying it's ensuring aid bypasses Hamas. A previous ceasefire deal collapsed in March after Israel resumed strikes, citing Hamas’s preparations for renewed attacks. That deal never advanced beyond its first stage.
