At least six individuals were shot on Monday in a violent outburst inside a Midtown Manhattan office building located at 52nd Street and Park Avenue. Among the victims was a female NYPD officer working security at the location, who tragically lost her life. The incident shook the heart of the city, as the building is home to the Blackstone investment firm and the National Football League (NFL) headquarters.
Footage captured by a FOX 5 NY employee showed multiple police officers rushing to help victims, with one person being carried away and another receiving emergency attention on the ground. According to law enforcement sources cited by the outlet, two police officers were among those shot—one fatally. Four additional people were killed inside the building.
Sources reported that three victims were transported to a nearby hospital, while one died on-site.
Surveillance footage revealed the suspected gunman wearing sunglasses and wielding what appeared to be a rifle. The shooter reportedly began firing in the building’s lobby before heading to another floor and continuing the attack. He then made his way up to the 33rd floor, where he ultimately took his own life.
As the gunfire erupted, terrified occupants scrambled to hide in kitchens, bathrooms, and on various floors of the building.
NYPD and Sheriff’s Department officers responded swiftly, entering the premises with guns drawn and tactical gear, as reported by Fox New York.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams issued an urgent alert on X (formerly Twitter), warning:
“New Yorkers: there is an active shooter investigation taking place in Midtown right now. Please take proper safety precautions if you are in the vicinity and do not go outside if you are near Park Avenue and East 51st Street.”
Law enforcement continued to sweep the building to ensure there was no second shooter involved.
The city’s emergency notification system also advised residents to expect traffic delays and disruptions to mass transit in the area.
Attorney General Letitia James expressed her condolences and concern, saying she was "praying for our law enforcement and the New Yorkers impacted in the shooting situation this evening in Manhattan."
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed the presence of FBI personnel at the crime scene, noting that the NYPD is currently leading the investigation.
"The FBI is on scene at the Manhattan crime scene... Motive is currently under investigation,” he stated.
In support of the unfolding situation, U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton has established a command post to assist both NYPD and FBI agents at the scene, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi.
